What on earth should you write about?!

Being stuck for content ideas - oh wow, it happens to the best of us!

I’m guessing that one of the reasons you’re here and reading this right now is because you know you need to be sharing valuable content, but you simply don’t know what to talk about … sound familiar?

Honestly, a lack of ideas is one of the most common issues I see entrepreneurs + small business owners struggling with when it comes to creating marketing content, and that’s why a significant portion of my From Confusion to Clarity program and other resources cover this very issue.

The important thing to remember when trying to come up with topic ideas for your marketing content is that they really do need to be aligned to you, your business, and your goals.

After all, why would a social media manager focus their content creation on self-worth and relationship advice?

Remember, the purpose of providing valuable content to your audience is to help establish yourself and your business as the go-to solution for their particular need or problem. A prospective client tearing their hair out over Instagram is probably more interested in what a social media manager can do to save them time, grow their following and increase their online engagement - rather than taking their advice on journaling and meditation.

Adopting a copy-cat approach isn't going to get you very far.png

Of course, you can (and should!) absolutely take inspiration from others in your field, and complementary industries - but adopting a copy-cat approach is not going to get you very far.

If you’re simply regurgitating things you’ve heard or seen others saying, you’re telling your audience that you’ve got nothing new to bring to the party.

Again, remember - content marketing is all about showcasing your expertise and valued opinion - thus, you kinda need some kind of opinion!

Your audience genuinely wants to hear your unique take on a topic - even if that is a topic which is talked about a lot and gets a lot of coverage from other, more influential people in your niche.

SO HOW?

So, one of the first and most important steps you can take in the content creation process is to add your ‘special sauce’. And by that, I mean that you need to take the time necessary to ensure that the content you are going to be creating or writing is totally aligned with your business and its strategic goals or objectives.

In today’s blog post I’m going to give you a couple of simple steps you can take now to start coming up with content ideas that actually make sense for you!

First things first, take a moment to consider yourself, and your business:

What exactly is it that you do?

CHEW ON YOUR PEN AND PONDER THIS FOR A MINUTE.

If you are struggling with this, then we have a bigger challenge to solve, and I can definitely help you

Once you have a clear vision in your mind’s eye of who you are and what your business is really ‘all about’, next it’s time to start thinking less in terms of ‘features’ and more in terms of ‘benefits’.

What I mean by this is that you really need to get to grips with the transformational result - or ‘desired end state’ -  that your product and/or service brings to the customer or client.

If you’re a VA, think less along the lines of: “I handle email correspondence” and more along the lines of “I free up your time and mental energy”.

YOU GET MY DRIFT?

Really take the time at this early stage to identify and recognize the actual benefits you are bringing your clients or customers. This is going to help you massively when it comes to shaping your content ideas - because when you’ve got this basis, your topics will be much more attuned to whatever pain your audience or potential readers are looking to solve.
